    You are mistaken in your comment when you write "Archived documents: These are documents that are no longer active but are not records (either because they no longer have to be retained or because they were never classified as records). Archived documents are kept by an enterprise for non-legal reasons such as for historical preservation."

    I disagree with your definition because although archival documents are no longer active records, they are documents that an archivist has appraised and deemed appropriate for long-term preservation precisely because they are a record of an activity, program, transaction, and / or a decision-making process. I could say more about this misunderstanding, but recommend that you consult any standard book on managing archives.
