Windows Server 2008 - Desktop Experience feature

Ive wasted a lot of time on this - so I hope it helps someone ...

On a Windows Server 2008 VM, I couldn't :
- save directly from Word into a SharePoint Document Library
- "View in Windows Explorer" the SharePoint Document Library

The normal solution is to start the "Web Client" service to enable WebDAV but the service was missing.

Solution was to install the "Desktop Experience" feature.

      Mark,
Did you experience a significant slow-down in your VM once you enabled the desktop experience? My Win2008 Server VM is very slow even though i have 2.5GB memory dedicated to it.

      I hadn't noticed any change.

Hrm.... 4 mb of "video" memory with no directx support, no 3d accel. Aero in VM wont work well.

it does not have vista aero theme, only the vista basic one. Why would you need that anyway on a server...
The vista theme only might be interesting when setup as a terminal server

      Thanks alot mark! :)
but its has also slowed my VMs down. maybe this is because there are many VMs on the SAME harddrive.

Also, can you let me know why we cannot see 'upload multiple files' option. googling suggests that i would be able to see this option from client machine where Office is installed. just as 'connect to outlook option' appears when outlook is installed. is this also the case in 'upload multiple files'?

Upload multiple items needs Office client installed

      Thank you very,very,very,very, much
i was searching for a solution beginnning in november 2009 and resign.
As i often make demo with SharePoint and Visio i was forced to run two virtual machine (server and client) on my laptop and all my demos was running slowly.
Now only on virtual machine is sufficient.
