With WSS V3 and MOSS 2007 you can leverage ASP.Net pluggable authentication modules. Thus providing the ability for a SharePoint site to leverage user authentication via a datastore other than Active Directory or Windows based logins.

This codeplex project provides SharePoint site's with a feature set that will enable adiministrators to manage users of a data store with Forms authentication.

The features include:

• An Administrator web part to view/edit/delete and add users to the data store by an administrator.
• Self registration page for users to request access to the site.
• New functionality for self registration
• Password retrieval via email
• CAPTCHA validation on self registration
• UI Enhancements
