Free domain names - Office Live


You can grab a free domain name if you sign up for Office Live Basics (you have to specify a US mail address ).

Ive just taken markharrison.org at no cost.

Check the source code of the web site and spot the SharePoint similarities. There is a nice template designer which allowed numerous themes / look & feels to be selected ... would nice to see that for WSS.

      Does this not also require a US registered CC?

      My card is UK registered. You do need to know a US address. No money transaction so a match doesnt seem critical.

      Can you transfer the domain after a certain period of time? i.e. is it yours to keep?

      Ive not ploughed through the T&Cs but looking at the registration details (doing a WHOIS) it is registered with the name & address of the applicant. So I dont see why you couldnt transfer it later as it is your name ... but then you would then be responsible for the registration fee annually.
