Integrating SharePoint Search with Windows Desktop Search

Sometime ago Mark Bower explained Searching SPS using Desktop Search.

Ive just come across a Registry hack to add a button to the UI (need to logoff/on).

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\DesktopSearch]
"PrimaryIntranetSearchScopeUrl"="Intranet,http://msweb/search.aspx?k=$w"

Save the text in a file with a .REG suffix and then invoke it. Note replace the name in green with your SharePoint machine name.

Update: If it doesnt work - make sure you are using the very latest version of WDS.

      I Mark, I have installed Office 2007 which is using WDS 3.0 and it seems that this registry key does not work anymore with WDS 3.0 and I can not launched a MOSS 2007 Search from WDS 3.0 ?
    Any idea ?

      I have WDS 3.0 too and the UI button didn't show up anywhere for me. I did reboot and everything.
